Mbarara traffic warden arrested after a boda boda rider was run over by a car
Police in Mbarara have cautioned road users to be careful and ensure compliance with traffic laws following the death of a boda boda rider who was run over by a car last evening around 7 pm.
The deceased Moses Kafeero,38, was knocked dead by motor vehicle UBD 341 X at independence park along Mbarara-Kabale road when Ssenoga Umar alias Kyabura,a city council traffic warden was struggling with the deceased to take his motorcycle and the deceased tried to run away from the traffic warden before falling fell into the road.
Rwizi region police spokesperson Samson Kasasira has confirmed that the traffic warden has been arrested for causing the accident and is being held at CPS Mbarara.
Due to the actions of the traffic warden, the boda boda riders became rowdy resisting the instructions of the police at the scene and decided to hold a procession while carrying the body of the deceased to the Mbarara regional referral hospital mortuary prompting police to disperse them with teargas and live bullets around Kobil petrol station where they abandoned the body.
The body has been taken to Mbarara regional referral hospital mortuary for postmortem by police as investigations continue under vide MBARARA TAR 141/2020.
The deceased’s motorcycle was also taken by the rowdy boda boda riders and police are also hunting for the car plus the driver that killed the deceased.
