Mbarara Presidential Aspirant arrested

Police in Mbarara has arrested an independent presidential aspirant, Ambrose Kyomukama, and two others for holding unlawful meetings in Kijungu Market cell Nyamityobora ward Kakoba division Mbarara City yesterday, July 27,2020 contrary to the Health Ministry and Uganda Electoral Commission guidelines that prohibited open campaigns during the 2020/2021 elections.
Other suspects are Kiiza Maxon 30, a resident of Nkokonjeru cell Kamukuzi division Mbarara city, Magaragangye Isaac 30, a resident of Kiyanja cell Kamukuzi division Mbarara city all now in police custody on three charges ranging from disobedience of lawful orders, holding an unlawful procession, negligent act likely to spread infection of disease c/s 171 of the Penal Code Act.
According to Rwizi Region police spokesperson ASP Samson Kasasira, two motor vehicles including fuso truck UAP 262 U and a toyota premio UAW 715 H that were being used by the suspects to mobilize masses were also impounded and are parked in the police yard at Central Police Station Mbarara as investigations continue under MBARARA SD ref 76/27/2020.
The public has been asked to fully adhere to the guidelines in the fight against the coronavirus pandemic which has so far claimed two people in Uganda.
