Mbarara municipality leaders divided over allocation of funds.
There is disagreement between different leaders in Mbarara municipality western Uganda especially councilors where those from Mbarara South comprising Nyamitanga,Kakoba and Nyakayojo divisions are accusing those from North comprising Biharwe,Kamukuzi and Kakiika divisions, claiming that they are selfish.
This has been reechoed by Hon Kagiiko Imaam Shafi LC IV Nyamitanga, who says places like Karugangama,Katete, and others surrounding River Rwizi in Nyamitanga, and some others in the South, have no roads,no bridge crossing to Karugangama, but his counterparts from the North have moved to allocate Shs7 billion to purchase more 704 street lights instead of working on roads, which he says it is motivated by selfish and corrupt interests, saying that the municipal council sometimes fail to utilize funds transferred from central government.
The Ministry of Local Government has already confirmed that Mbarara municipality (southwestern Uganda’s central business centre) will be divided into two effective July 1, 2020.
Mbarara municipality is a home of about 220,000 people, running on a Shs21 billion budget (2019/20),and it is one of the municipalities to be elevated to city status effective July 1, 2020. Others are Arua, Gulu, Jinja and Fort Portal.
