Mbarara Highcourt adjourns Sheema Municipality election case
The Mbarara high court judge Andrew Bashaija has adjourned the Sheema municipality MP election petition until 16th this month, to allow the electoral commission crosscheck the affidavit in this case where the loser FDC’s Virginia Plan Mugyenyi petitioned court to nullify NRM’s Elioda Tumwesigye’s victory.
After losing this election which was conducted on 27thJuly 2018, Virginia through his lawyer John Isabirye filed a petition in September which has since then has not been heard in Mbarara high court.
In today’s court sitting, the electoral commission lawyer Eric Sabiti told the presiding judge that the petitioning side served him affidavit last friday, therefore asked more time to read them.
Minister Elioda in Court today
According to Virginia’s lawyer, the electoral commission lawyer and Elioda’s lawyer are not easy to access for the three times this petition hearing has flopped so far.
It’s on this cause that the judge has ordered both sides to finish up all they have to file including cross examining 20 witnesses on both sides and serve them to court before Friday as they prepare for the petition hearing on 16th January 2019.
