Mbarara High School headteacher charged before the Anti-corruption Court over embezzlement
The Headmaster of Mbarara High School Benon Chally Twinomujuni and the School Bursar Michael Namara have been arraigned before the Anti-corruption Court, in Kololo-Kampala, and faced 3 Counts including Embezzlement, Causing Financial Loss and Abuse of Office.
They appeared before the Chief Magistrate Lamunu Pamella Ochaya, and denied the charges.
Prosecution alleges that Twinomujuni and Namara between January 2017 and February 2018 while in Office at Mbarara High School in Mbarara District, stole over 200 million shillings (207,450,000m shs) meant for various School Activities.
Its further alleged that the duo approved and withdrew the 207,450,000 million shillings without any supporting documents and accountability, an arbitrary act prejudicial to the interest of their employer.
They have been ordered to pay a cash bail of 10 mshs each before leaving prison custody, while their sureties who include an Economist with Bank of Uganda-Paddy Turyamujuka were ordered to sign a non-cash bond of 80 mshs each, to ensure the accused persons return to Court on 18th/ February/2019.
