Makerere Lectures Suspend Strike
Makerere University lecturers under their umbrella body, Makerere University Academic Staff Association (MUASA) have finally suspended the strike. MUASA chairman, Muhammed Kiggundu says they have resolved to resume work with immediate effect. When asked about when the university will re-open, he said it is now upon President Museveni. The decision follows a meeting the lecturers held this morning where they voted 81 for – 56 against continuing with the strike. .
Makerere University was closed on November 1st, on the directive of President Yoweri Museveni following the sit down strike by the lecturers over their unpaid salary incentives for eight months. This forced the students to also strike demanding for lectures.
