Lands Minister’s NRM Election Challenged in High Court; Aggrieved Applicants say She Belongs to UFA not NRM
Aggrieved Members of Uganda Federal Alliance and NRM Voters in Rubaga North Constituency have dragged Lands Minister Beti Olive Namisango Kamya Turomwe and the NRM Party to the High court Civil Division; seeking declarations that Kamya’s nomination by NRM was illegal and procedurally improper due to her dual party membership.
Ssenyonga Baker Byayi the Coordinator of Uganda Federal Alliance, Wesonga Joel the Deputy President Uganda Federal Alliance together with Mwesigwa Edison and Tindyebwa Brian Kusingura who are MRM Members and voters from Rubaga North, say that Kamya is a founder member and still the current President General of Uganda Federal Alliance who contested also with the NRM party primary elections for Rubaga North Constituency in Kampala.
Through Bumpenje and Company Advocates; they argue that Kamya was illegally nominated by the NRM through its EC headed by Dr. Tanga Odoi to constest as NRM flag bearer for MP Rubaga North and that NRM should be compelled by Court to furnish it with a copy of the nomination papers that is in their custody and has refused to avail a copy to the aggrieved applicants.
They also want an injunction restraining NRM from submitting Kamya’s name to the Electoral Commission of Uganda for nomination as the NRM party flag bearer for Rubaga North Constituency slated to be held on 12th-13th/October/2020.
This is because NRM failed to take into account the dual party membership of Kamya in norminating her in bad faith against Uganda Federal Alliance Members.
And now the applicants are severally aggrieved by NRM’s decision to nominate Kamya who is still a member of UFA; despite Complaints and petitions they filed with NRM challenging Kamya’s nomination, but were all in vain.
That unless Court addresses this matter; there is an imminent threat of Kamya being nominated by the Independent Electoral Commission of Uganda as the NRM flag bearer for Rubaga North at the detriment of the applicants.
