Kisoro police arrests Four suspects for trafficking Crested Cranes to Democratic Republic of Congo.
Police in Kisoro have arrested four suspects for allegedly trafficking crested cranes to Democratic Republic of Congo.
The arrested suspects include Dan Iradukunda 22 from Bunagana Muramba Sub County, Habyarimana George 25, a resident of Gahiza Buhozi parish Busanza Sub County and Tumushime Hilary 28 a boda rider at Bunagana stage.
Both Dan Iradukunda and Habyarimana George admitted for involving in trafficking crested cranes to Democratic Republic of Congo for a period of over 4 months while Tumushime Hilary (a cyclist) denied involving in animal trafficking. Tumushime said that he was only hired to transport the two suspects without knowing their intention. The duo maintain that they sell trafficked crested cranes to a one Eva, a Congolese national at a fee of 150,000 Ugandan shillings each
The three suspects were arrested today by honourable Kamara’s body guards who later handed them Uganda Wildlife Authorities in Kisoro. UWA officials escorted the suspects to kisoro police for interrogation. Honorable John Kamara said that he ordered for the arrest of suspects after tipp-off from concerned residents. He advised people to desist from harming crested Cranes as they are national symbols
Amanya Samuel, the chief warden in charge of Mughinga national park said the suspects Will be investigated and face the law if found guilty of animal trafficking. He asked residents to remain vigilant and report anyone suspected of animal trafficking
