Kigezi diocese has banned political leaders and other people from soliciting for votes on church functions.
This was revealed yesterday Tuesday Feb 11,2020 by the Kigezi diocesan secretary Rev. Erasmus
Turyatunga while speaking during the induction service of the
archdeacon of the Rukore archdeaconry Venerable Godfrey Twesiime that
was held at Rukore Church of Uganda in Lyakarimira town council in
Rev.Turyatunga said that most politicians and aspiring candidates have
turned church functions into campaign platforms and asked them to
carry out their activities outside the church. He also asked religious
leaders to enforce the ban saying that the habit will not be
entertained in the diocese.
The Bishop of the diocese of Kigezi Rt. Rev. George Bagamuhunda who
presided over the function asked religious leaders to lead by example,
cooperate and work together with Christians for the development of the
church and the country.
Speaking as the guest of honor during the service, the Kabale district
woman member of parliament Hon. Catherine Ndamira Atwakire who
represented the State Minister of Finance for planning David Bahati
warned parents against alcoholism and domestic violence saying that
they will be setting a bad example to their children.
