Kanyike Faces Appointments Committee
Former deputy Lord Mayor Sarah Kanyike has said that she feels more comfortable to serve as a minister in the NRM ruling government since her first appointment as director for gender was a demotion.
Kanyike was appointed by President Museveni last week as minister of state for gender in charge of elderly and disability.
Speaking to journalists just after going through the vetting process by the appointments committee of parliament chaired by speaker Kadaga, Kanyike said although she accepted the nomination for the post of director of gender but she raised her concern with the appointment authority who found it fit to appoint her as minister.
Kanyike says she accepted to serve in NRM government purposely to push the government programs for all Ugandans to benefit and insists she will remain an opposition member.
As her first task once approved for this position, Kanyike says she will ensure the elders under Social Assistance Grants for Empowerment (SAGE) program get their monthly funds on time.
