Godfrey Aine Kaguta Sodo has won the Mawogola north National Resistance Movement (NRM) MP flag in Sembabule district after garnering 17,343 (46%) votes in yesterday’s primaries. Foreign Minister Sam Kutesa’s daughter Shartsi Kutesa Musherure got 16,104 (42.7%) while Kisekka Salim got 4,274 (11.3%).
In Mawogola west,Sembabule woman MP Hanifa Kawooya has trounced incumbent MP Joseph Sekabiito Kitayimbwa with 15,923 votes (54%) and Joseph got 13,143 (45.2%). Sam Kutesa is the current Mawogola north MP but he didn’t seek reelection.
In the woman MP race, Mary Begumisa won the flag after garnering 73,940 votes (72.9%),Twongyeirwe Jovanice got 16,448 (16.2%) and Arinaitwe Phoebe got 1,011 (10.9%).
While declaring the results at the tally centre last evening in presence of the NRM electoral commission chairman Dr. Tanga Odoi,the district NRM registrar George William Katokozi revealed that the election was peaceful.
Shartsi has already petitioned the NRM electoral commission claiming that Aine Kaguta Sodo rigged votes in Mawogola constituency north.
