Over 2000 Teenage Pregnancies Recorded in Kabale District
A total of 2,618 teenage pregnancies were recorded by Kabale District Health Department from the month of January to July this year.
Speaking to our reporter today in his office in Makanga in Kabale Municipality, the Acting Kabale District Health Officer, Alfred Besigensi said that, the 2,618 teenage pregnancies are part of the 17,309 total pregnancies that were recorded by health facilities in the district from January to July this year.
Besigensi said that 384 teenage pregnancies were recorded in January, 311 in February, 369 in March, 319 in April, 423 cases in May, 442 in June and 370 in July. He said that the cases captured are only those that visited health facilities in the district for antenatal care.
Besigensi blamed the teenage pregnancies to laxity of parents who have failed to guide their children. He however said that they have already started sensitizing communities using radio talk shows on the negative outcomes of teenage pregnancies.
