The hotly contested National Resistance Movement (NRM) Ntungamo municipality mayoral primary elections that were earlier suspended were held yesterday under the watch of NRM electoral commission chairman Dr. Tanga Odoi.
The elections were suspended after the candidates were accused of ferrying in people from outside different polling areas to participate in the voting which caused the arrest of over 400 people who were later released.
The race had three aspirants including the incumbent Jacob Kafureeka alias Jack Jex, the chairperson Eastern Division Hajji Hakim Muheki Rwomushana and district councilor Ronald Bukenya.
Maria Mirembe, Ntungamo district NRM Registrar has today morning declared the incumbent Kafureka the winner of the election with 2,908 votes followed by Hakim Muheki Rwomushana with 1,195 votes and Ronald Bukenya came last with 666 votes.
