Jailed Equal Opportunities Commission Chairperson Sylvia Muwebwa Ntambi granted bail
Equal Opportunities Commission Chairperson Sylvia Muwebwa Ntambi has been granted bail after spending six nights in Kigo Government Prison for alleged Corruption, Neglect of duty and Conspiracy to defraud.
Muwebwa was last week on 29th October 2020 charged before the Anticorruption court and remanded to prison by the Chief Magistrate Pamella Lamunu Ochaya after pleading not guilty to the said crime.
Muwebwa has however today appeared before the High court via video conferencing before a Grade One Magistrate Moses Nabende and applied for bail through her Lawyer McDusman Kabega.
She presented three surities including LASPNET’s CEO Silvia Namubiru , CSBAG’s Julius Mukunda and FOWODE’s Munaaba all Friends in the Profession.
Magistrate Nabende ordered Mewebwa to deposit her travel documents; Land title and 3.5mshs cash bail with Court while her surities were ordered to sign a noncash bond of 40mshs each not cash and ensure that she returns to court on 24th November 2020 for mention of her case.
Muhebwa is jointly charged with Nine other Commission Officials who are facing charges of Embezzlement, and Causing Financial loss to Government of a total sum of 245.5million shillings.
Muhebwa is alleged to have neglected her duty of directing the affairs and administration of the Commission thereby leading to gross mismanagement of the commission funds.
They are said to have committed the offence between July 2018 and April 2019 at the Equal Opportunities Commission offices in Kampala.
The other accused Officials include Olwor Sunday Nicholas the Under-secretary; Agnes Enid Kamahoro the Senior Personal Secretary, Moses Mugabe the Senior Monitoring Evaluation Officer, Mujuni Mpitsi the Secretary to the Commission, Byangire Harriet the Senior Accountant, Kwesiga Ronnie the Accounts Assistant, Jemba Evans the Principle Compliance Officer, Kwihangana Manasseh the Senior Compliance Officer; and Sarah Nassanga the Commission Attendant.
The nine are already out on bail and also denied the charges.
