Increased Theft Cases Fueled by Lack of Electricity
There has been increased cases of theft in Kasese health facilities due to lack of constant power supply due to over flooding of major rivers in the district which has swept away electricity poles.
According to Dr Baseka Yusuf the Kasese district health officer, maternity wards are equally affected as medics continue to deliver and operate mothers on torches and phones.
The most affected health units include; Kyarumba Health center III, Kahokya Health center II, Kiraro Health center II, Kyanya SDA among others. Some of these facilities were connected to power supply but due to continuous flooding of rivers all the electricity poles were swept away.
Dr. Baseka Yusuf says Majority of the facilities that were affected by the disaster are located in hard to reach areas and connectivity remains a very big challenge as most of the bridges were also swept away making referrals very expensive.
