Ibanda RDC intervenes as Bainomugisha supporters protest against Kaliisa’s victory
The Resident District Commissioner (RDC) for Ibanda, Eliasto Akatuheebwa has intervened and condemned the escalating protests as supporters of Jane Bainomugisha refute incumbent woman representative Jovrine Kaliisa Kyomukama’s victory after the National Resistance Movement (NRM) tribunal declared her winner of NRM flag overturning Jane’s victory last week .
About 100 Bainomugisha supporters yesterday demonstrated around Ibanda town with posters accusing the NRM electoral commission chairman, Dr. Tang Odoi of changing Bainomugisha’s results and they later camped at the NRM office claiming that the district NRM registrar Amwine Innocent should give an explanation though he never surfaced.
RDC Eliasto says that the demonstrations should not target the NRM registrar since the matter is beyond his office, and the assault case he opened against Jovrine Kaliisa is set to be heard by Ibanda court on October 14,2020.
Akatuheebwa vowed to jointly work with security and other authorities in preventing these protests from escalating.
