Ibanda leadership and matooke traders locked in disagreement over bribery
A disagreement has erupted between the traders of matooke, and Ibanda leaders especially in the municipality following the established of another matooke market at Saza on Ibanda
– Kamwenge road.
The establishment of the market follows a long time rift between
the Matooke dealers at “Mile 2” on Ibanda-Mbarara road and a
section their market landlord whom they accuse of being selfish and harsh.
Both markets are located in Bufunda division Ibanda municipality but some traders who preferred anonymity cited a range of issues in this scandal including bribery, accusing some municipal leaders of corrupt.
This situation yesterday prompted the Bufunda division leadership to convene an
emergency council meeting to resolve the impasse between the traders though the matter is still being addressed.
District authorities including Ibanda Resident District Commissioner-RDC have now advised that
two matooke markets can still operate as long they pay taxes and pass
through the right channel of establishment.
