HIV/AIDS patients urged to always disclose their status
Uganda has joined the rest of the world to mark #WorldAIDSDay2020. World theme for the 2020 observance is “Ending the HIV/AIDS Epidemic: Resilience and Impact”. Uganda – “National solidarity and a shared responsibility towards ending AIDS”.
People living with HIV/AIDS have been challenged to always disclose their status if they are to save future generation from acquiring the virus
This call was made by Moses Biryomumisho the representative of people living with HIV at Mbarara District AIDS Committee as Uganda marks the world AIDS day.
Biryomumisho notes that due to failure by the population to disclose their status many people failure to identify such people in the long run they end up spreading the virus to the innocent people
He noted that those who fail to disclose their life status that they are HIV positive are the ones that face stigma in the community.
According to Wilber Tusimire the center program manager TASO Mbarara, a total of 6334 are on ARV’s at TASO Mbarara among which 64% are females, 36% are male and 5% are children.
While the COVID-19 pandemic led to a partial lockdown of the country, this year’s World AIDS Day commemoration will be carried out scientifically under the theme “National solidarity and a shared responsibility towards ending AIDS.”
