Heavy rains destroy gardens and roads in Kabale
Farmers in Buhara Sub County Kabale district are counting losses following a heavy
down pour, which destroyed their crops and roads yesterday evening.
The heavy rains that started at around 5PM lasted for over two hours
and destroyed crops gardens of bananas, cabbages, beans, sweat
potatoes, Irish potatoes and maize among other crops. Some of the
roads destroyed by the rains include; Kabanyonyi-Kafunjo road,
Kabanyonyi-Nyamukyengyere road and Kabanyonyi-Kagweru road.
The most affected villages are; Kabindi, Kabanyonyi, Ruborooga,
Kafunjo and Karweru. The residents led by the LCI chairman of Kabindi
cell Simon Turyamuhangi, Denis Ensinikweri, Frank Tarasisiyo from
Kabanyonyi trading centre and Simon Turyamubona among others appealed
to Government and other well-wishers to come to their rescue.
The Kabale district Secretary for Works and Technical Services who
also doubles as the district councilor for Buhara Sub-county Johnson
Baguma said that the residents have lost a lot of properties and need
urgent support. He said that the district authorities have already
assessed the damages and will send the road equipment to open the
roads before this week ends.
