Gov’t Disagrees with MPs on Management of NSSF
The passing of the National Social Security Fund (NSSF) Amendment Bill, 2019 has been deferred to next week after Parliament got stuck on the clauses that concern how the workers’ fund will be supervised.
The House was also stuck on the government proposals that deal with the mid-term access of benefits by the workers who are saving with the NSSF.
The government side led by Gender Minister Frank Tumwebaze and State Minister for Finance in charge of Planning David Bahati failed in their attempts to convince the Members of Parliament to put it in the law that the fund be managed by the Ministry of Finance.
But the MPs across the floor insisted that the fund should be supervised by the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development which by law is responsible for the social security in the country.
