Government to generate UGX 4B from taxing Non-recycled polythene products
Ministry of finance has tabled before the Parliamentary Finance Committee another new tax measure to generate Shillings 4 billion for government.
While appearing before the finance committee together with the State Minister of Planning David Bahati, the Acting Director Economic Affairs at the Ministry of Minance Moses Kagwa, said that they want tax on the imported and locally produced non recycled polythene products in the country to facilitate the cleaning of places where they are dumped.
He added that the proposed tax would enable establishment of more recycling plants that will pay more taxes to the government.
Kagwa said that if this tax is imposed on both imported and locally non recycled polythene products, government will realize 4 billion shillings compared to the previous collection of 1.2 billion shillings.
He said that each import of non-recycled kilogram of polythene bags will be charged a tax of 10,000 shillings.
