Five days to the start of 2nd term,Ugandan teachers still on strike.
The industrial action for all teachers in government aided primary and secondary schools across the country has commenced by teachers laying down their tools demanding for salary enhancement.
Addressing the media at Uganda National Teachers’ Union (UNATU) offices in Mbarara town, David Muhanguzi Kaninga who is the western Uganda UNATU coordinator, has said that as teachers through the union gave government a 90-day ultimatum to address their issue of salary enhancement which ended May 20, 2019 where nothing has been done.
According Muhanguzi the ultimatum was communicated to government on 20th February this year.
He noted that good enough the industrial action has began when the students are still in their holidays, calling up on all teachers to stay at home when term starts until the government addresses their need.
