There is tension in Rwampara district as voters decry intimidation by suspected security officers allegedly deployed by some politicians ahead of the National Resistance Movement (NRM) primaries on Friday September 4, 2020.
Local sources allege that some politicians including the woman Member of Parliament (MP) aspirant Molly Asiimwe who doubles as a secretary in office of the first lady Janet Kataha Museveni have knowledge and a hand in this tension.
Anna Kansiime, a woman MP aspirant on NRM card said that these intimidations have scared many voters and security is participating in night meetings in some hotels in Mbarara.
According to Julius Karuhanga who is facing the incumbent MP Charles Ngabirano in Rwampara east, some voters are being bought off which will pave way for incompetent leaders.
‘Voters should not accept to be bought, they should assess aspirants’ manifestos and vote wisely,’ he added.
