FDC sets nomination dates for presidential candidates
The Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has set its date for the nomination of part Presidential candidates.
Sources in the party said that the party had set July 1st and 2nd as dates when the party would conduct the nominations.
Nominated candidates will then start campaigning and eventually delegates will elect one who will face off with the other candidates from different parties for the 2016 national elections.
FDC secretary for Mobilisation Ingrid Turinawe confirmed the dates in a message to the party members.
“Nominations for FDC presidential flag bearers have been set for 1 and 2 at the party headquarters in Najjanankumbi,” Turinawe said.
Turinawe further added that the position was open to be competed for by all/any interested party card holding member.
The party has set the nomination fees as Ugshs 2,000,000.
The candidate must be 35 years and above, must have an academic qualification of S.6 or its Equivalent, a Ugandan by decent and must never have been declared bankrupt.
The incumbent party President Maj. Gen (rtd) Mugisha Muntu has already declared he will contest for the seat.
Despite stepping down as Party President earlier, sources say that some members were putting pressure on Col. (rtd) Kizza Besigye who has stood against President Museveni in 3 elections to reconsider his decision and vie for the party presidency.
The nominated FDC candidate will have to traverse the country to meet the delegates before they are called to Kampala to elect.
