FDC Says They Are in Talks with Mbabazi
Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) Publicity Secretary, Wafula Oguttu has confirmed that the political organisation is in talks with former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi as the opposition plans to field a joint candidate against President Museveni in the 2016 elections.
“We haven’t talked to Mbabazi personally but we have met his delegation; we are actually in talks with all other individuals and groups that are pursuing peaceful democratic change,” Wafula confirmed. This follows media reports that opposition are in the final stages of rolling out a single candidate, preferably Mbabazi to give Museveni a run for his money.
The NRM recently endorsed Museveni as their sole candidate in the upcoming presidential race.
the FDC National Council meeting that was held last week passed a resolution that the party would support a single candidate fronted against the ruling party’s flag-bearer.
Wafula said the party is “so much determined to support any candidate that the opposition, civil society organizations, religious groups and all democratic seeking Ugandans will front against President Museveni.”
Mbabazi on Sunday told a group of Councillors from Kibaale District that his much-anticipated announcement on his take on the presidency is imminent: “You have waited for years, months and now it’s only days and I will tell you the good news.”
