Embattled Rebel MPs Withdraw Case Against Party
Three NRM legislators have withdrawn a case they filed in court to block their expulsion from the party saying it has been overtaken by events. They are Wilfred Niwagaba, Ndorwa East MP, Theodore Ssekikubo, Lwemiyaga County and their Buyaga County counterpart Barnabas Tinkasiimire.
Through their lawyer, Wandera Ogaalo, the MPs argue that their case cannot be sustained since they have already been expelled from court, a move they wanted to stop. The MPs petitioned court arguing that the NRM disciplinary committee was on the verge of expelling them from the party without giving them chance to appear and defend themselves. However, the MPs have vowed to file a fresh suit challenging the party decision to expel them.
They now want court to quash the decision of the NRM party of expelling them. Recently, the Central Executive Committee-CEC of the NRM expelled the three MPs along with Kampala Central MP Mohammed Nsereko for alleged indiscipline. The party also suspended Rwampara MP; Vincent Kyamadidi for three months.
