Edith Nakalema-led State House Anti-corruption Unit grills Tororo Municipal officials
Three Tororo Municipal Technical Staff, including the Town Clerk-Akuma Muzamir, the Acting Municipal Engineer-Okatch Denis and the Road Inspector- Etutu Ekoju Shadrach, have arrived at the Anticorruption court in Kololo-Kampala, to face nine corruption related charges.
These are the first Civil Servants to be arrested and Prosecuted by the Major Edith Nakalema led State House Anticorruption Unit.
They are accused of Abuse of Office, Causing Financial Loss and Conspiracy to defraud 115.9 million shillings from Government.
Prosecution alleges that between 11th/October/2018 and 15th/January/2019 at Tororo Municipal Council in Tororo District, the trio requisitioned, processed and made payments worth 115.9mshs to service providers including Total Tororo Service Station without following Procurement Procedures.
The group also purportedly paid gratuity to Road Gang Casual Workers, well aware that the said gang Workers were not entitled to Gratuity payments.
Their actions were not only in abuse of the authority of their offices, but also prejuditial to the interests of their employer.
They are to appear before Chief Magistrate Lamunu Pamella Ochaya this afternoon to answer to the said offences.
