Disappointed independents shun NRM reconciliation meeting
Independent aspirants on different posts in Kabale district have shunned National Resistance Movement-NRM reconciliation intended to reconcile the winners and losers of the primaries as well as convincing independents to withdraw from the 2021 race.
At the meeting held at White Horse Inn Hotel in Kabale municipality yesterday, disappointed losers who were nominated as independent candidates did not show up except the Kyankwanzi district deputy RDC Denis Nzeirwe who lost the Kabale district LC V race.
Some of them say they did not attend this meeting because organizers are selfish and their intentions are far from reconciling party members.
The State Minister for Finance and Economic Planning David Bahati, who doubles as Ndorwa west constituency legislator described the current NRM reconciliation drive as a continuous process and it is not too late to resolve the disagreements.
On Thursday, the NRM Secretariat kicked off the Party Membership reconciliation drive across the country to bridge gaps between winners and losers of the recent NRM Primary Elections as well as convincing NRM-leaning independents to withdraw their candidature from the 2021 general election.
In Kigezi Sub-Region, Chairperson of the NRM workers League Mr. James Tweheyo, and Ntungamo Woman MP Beatrice Rwakimari are leading the delegation from the Secretariat.
On the same cause, NRM national vice chairman Hajji Moses Kigongo yesterday met flag-bearers and independents in Ibanda at Mayors Gardens and in Rushere Kiruhura at NRM offices Rushere.
Kigongo reminded them that they are not working for the national party chairman President Museveni, they are working for the good of NRM.
Independents have not yet bought the party advice of withdrawing from the race.
