Corruption: Bufumbira South MP Sam Bitangaro and 3 others sent to Luzira.
Member of Parliament for Bufumbira South Hon Sam Bitangaro and 3 others sent to Luzira for obtaining money by false pretense.
Sam Bitangaro, Onyango, Kakuba and Tumwine, have today been charged and remanded to Luzira prison over Obtaining money by False Pretense and Conspiracy to Defraud government of UGX 3 billion.
Bitangaro recently dismissed allegations that State House Anti-corruption unit was investigating him over the sale of land valued Shs1.6bn to evictees.
The report alleged that Bitangaro and five others are wanted by the State House Anti-corruption unit after the government failed to relocate evictees from Luwunga Forest Reserve in Kiboga District. The President released Shs3bn to facilitate resettlement of evictees while National Forest Authority released Shs1.5bn for facilities such as schools and water to the evictees.
The evictees formed Kiboga Twegatte Cooperative Society Limited, a SACCO which paid Shs1.6bn to Hon Bitangaro to be resettled in Kasssanda district. The reports alleged that crooks had infiltrated the SACCO with the aim of selling ‘air’ to the evictees.
Months ago, Bitangaro told parliament that the reports are distorted and aimed at tarnishing his reputation.
He explained that in 2014, he was approached by a group of people representing Kiboga Twegatte Cooperative Society Limited who offered to purchase his land measuring 780 acres and the deal was done on “willing seller, willing buyer” basis.
“The buyers carried out due diligence through their lawyer and even made a search in the Registry of Lands and found that the land belonged to me,” Hon Bitangaro said.
Today January 2,2019, the Bufumbira South Legislator from Kisoro district, and other 3 were charged and remanded by Anti-Corruption court.
