Ainomugisha Aaron.
Police is hunting for a boy (name withheld) who has been accused by 12 girls of being responsible for their pregnancy in Maliba sub-county in Kasese district western Uganda.
The authorities have revealed that all victims are residents of the same Maliba sub county where parents have continued to express worry over increased pregnancies.
According to the Resident District Commissioner (RDC) Kasese Lt. Joe Walusimbi, such cases are increasing but as authorities they have embarked on operations to arrets and punish the perpetrators and parents who have relaxed in parenting.
Lt. Walusimbi has advised parents to teach their children skills like making crafts and others to keep them busy.
The scenario follows outcry by child rights activists in Kasese district, Rwenzori region and Uganda at large calling upon government and other stakeholders to jointly fight sexual abuse especially during this COVID-19 lockdown.
Annet Kobusinge, a project officer of Ending Violence against Women and Girls at Uganda Network on Law Ethics and HIV/AIDS (UGANET) recently explained that such cases have been caused by reluctance of parents especially in monitoring their children to prevent them from engaging in bad acts during this lockdown.
