Bobi Wine granted bail, warned against flouting SOPs
The National Unity Platform-NUP Presidential Candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu Bobi Wine has been granted non-cash bail by Iganga magistrates court.
The 38-year old pop star is accused of flouting Standard Operating Procedures-SOPs in the fight against COVID-19 by holding a rally with over 200 people on Wednesday, November 18, 2020.
Bobi has been at Nalufenya prison in Jinja eastern Uganda since his arrested on Wednesday at Luuka district headquarter grounds.
His arrest sparked protests especially in Kampala metropolitan area; the Director of Police Medical Services, Dr. Moses Byaruhanga the city mortuary at Mulago National Referral hospital has so far recorded 37 bodies from the riots.
He has been granted a non cash bail of Shs1m and his sureties; MPs Paul Mwiru and John Baptist Nambashe bonded shs5 m not cash.
Kyagulanyi’s lawyers led by Medard Ssegona termed this arrest and case political.
Iganga Chief Magistrates Jessica Chemeri has adjourned the case to 18th December and laid out strict guidelines for the presidential candidate, warning him to observe SOPs.
Bobi Wine: I am not here because I committed a crime, I am here because I offered myself to lead Ugandans into ending 35 yrs of dictatorship. The case should be Ugandans vs Museveni.
