Bank of Uganda Shs90 billion Cargo scandle: Where was the Governor!
At least eight government officials are being detained as the State House Anti-Corruption Unit investigates Bank of Uganda officials in connection with procurement of classified items.
Government spokesperson Ofwono Opondo has revealed that the arrested include directors in charge of currency, procurement as well as security and others are customs officials, airport police officers, Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) staff among others.
“We are inquiring why the BoU officials who were using a chartered plane had to go through the normal procedure,” wondered Mr Opondo told reporters.
It is believed that an extra currency of Shs 90 billion was printed without authority and a plane used to transport this money to Uganda. Opondo says this is being investigated.
State House Anti-Corruption Unit and the Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) officials recently raided Bank of Uganda to get more determining information.

Bank of Uganda Governor Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile who has confirmed that the central bank is under criminal investigation following a voluntary invitation to the Anti-corruption Unit at State House, is being castigated by some Ugandans for not doing his Job.
Emmanuel Tumusiime Mutebile,70,was first appointed governor on 1st January 2001 and he has enjoyed numerous five-year term reappointments.
