Army finally releases boxer Justin Juuko
The army has finally released Ugandan boxer Justin “The Destroyer” Juuko,48, following complaints and legal intervention championed by his family, human rights activists and other figures including Dr. Kizza Besigye.
His Lawyer Byansi Henry says Juuko’s family was called last evening to pick him from Mbuya after charges that had been preferred against him were dropped.
Juuko was arrested in Masaka on 12th December/2020 on allegations that he was training youths in martial arts to destabilize the 2021 general election.
His release comes after High court Judge Musa Ssekaana ordered his lawyers led by Muhammad Lugoloobi to go to Kitalya Government Prison and ascertain the claims by the Attorney General’s representative Twinomugisha Mugisha that Juuko had been remanded there after facing charges of Treachery and unlawful possession of a fire arm on 22nd December 2020 before the Unit Disciplinary Court in Mbuya.
Justice Ssekaana also adjourned Juuko,s case to 8th January 2021 for Juuko’s lawyers to furnish Court with a report on his actual detention centre and his health condition.
