ANT Calls Off National Delegates’ Conference
The Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) has called off its national delegates conference, just hours to D-Day.
The party headed by former Forum for Democratic Party President, Maj Gen Mugisha Muntu was slated to hold its first delegates Conference tomorrow.
However, the party has failed to secure clearance from the Electoral Commission under what it has termed as unclear circumstances.
In a press statement, the Acting National Coordinator Secretary, Alice Alaso, has said that it is simply impossible to proceed with the delegates’ conference.
She adds that the ANT is extremely disappointed with the irresponsible attitude of the Electoral Commission and failure to respond to the party’s notifications for the conference.
The Electoral Commission officials say they are still holding discussions with the ANT leadership about the same.
According to the press statement which has been released today, ANT wrote to the Electoral Commission on the 24th July highlighting the position required by the police and unfortunately up to now, the letter has not been responded.
ANT has expressed their disappointment which they say is irresponsible attitude of the Electoral Commission that has been highlighted by the commission’s refusal to respond to what has been termed as competent competition.
The Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) says the party set out to hold a National Delegates Conference in accordance with the provisions on the party consistitution and the political parties organization Act.
ANT say this was to prepare for the Revised Electoral Road map issued by the Electoral Commission of Uganda but they unfortunately can not proceed now, with only one day left to the scheduled date of 6th August 2020 since EC has deliberately ignored ANT’s letter.
