You did remember that today is Father’s Day, right?
Well, Fathers’ day is considered a day to acknowledge the contribution of fathers to individual families and societies at large. The idea of celebrating Father’s Day was given by Sonora Dodd, a loving daughter from Spokane, in the US. Sonora’s father, Henry Jackson Smart single-handedly raised her and five siblings after their mother died during childbirth, something that made her think there was a need to celebrate the fathers like it was for mothers, as she attended a mother’s sermon in 1909.
Sonora then worked tirelessly to make it a reality, and In 1924 ,President Calvin Coolidge first recognized Father’s Day. In view of the enormous popularity, in 1972, President Richard Nixon established a permanent national observance of the day to be held every third Sunday of June.
