75 people remanded over disobedience of lawful orders
44 people including 9 women have been arraigned before Kampala City Hall court on charges of unlawfully wearing uniform declared to be for the exclusive use of persons performing in armed forces of Uganda, and disobedience of lawful orders.
These who were arrested on Wednesday this week in Kamwokya ,a Kampala suburb were found wearing uniform with distinctive marks of the Security Forces like Line yards, Peeps and Berates in a manner likely to bring contempt on that uniform, and gathering in large numbers without observing social distance contrary to presidential orders intended to prevent the spread of COVID-19 pandemic.
Grade One Magistrate Valerian Tumuhimbise remanded them to Kitalya (men) and Kigo (women) government prisons respectively until 23rd October 2020 as investigations into their case continue despite them refuting the charges.
Meanwhile, another 31 people including 21 women have been charged before Buganda road court with offences in relation to uniforms and sent on remand to Kitalya and Kigo government prisons by Grade One Magistrate Dorothy Olga Bagyenyi despite them refuting the charges.
16 of them will return to court on Monday, 19th October before Grade One Magistrate Stella Amabilis while the other 15 return to court before magistrate Dorothy Bagyenyi on Wednesday, 21st October 2020 as investigations into their case continue.
