Asamoah Gyan dropped ahead of Black Stars 2019 AFCON qualifier against Kenya
Ghana head coach Kwesi Appiah has dropped striker and captain Asamoah Gyan ahead of the Black Stars’ AFCON 2019 qualifier match against Kenya in Accra on 23 March.
His place in the squad has been taken by Kwesi Appiah, who returns after after a four year absence.
Appiah, 28, last played for Ghana in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations final against Ivory Coast, a game the Black Stars lost 9-8 on penalties.
Asamoah Gyan who was part of the Blacks Stars squad for their 2-0 win over Ethiopia in Addis Ababa in November 2018 as an unused substitute, has in recent times struggled for playing time at his club Kayserispor in Turkey this season due to injuries.
The former Sunderland, Shanghai SIPG and Rennes striker has scored 51 goas in 105 games for the Black Stars.
Established names such as the Ayew brothers of Andre and Jordan, Christian Atsu, Kwadwo Asamoah, John Boye, Thomas Partey and Mubarak Wakaso are in the squad.
