126 defilement cases reported in Rwizi region during lockdown
Police in mbarara are concerned about the rising cases of defilement and rape in Rwizi region during the COVID-19 lockdown.
Statistics from the Criminal Investigations Department show that 25 rape cases and 126 others for defilement were recorded between March and May 2020.
Samson Kasasira, the Rwizi region police spokesperson says defilement cases involving teenage girls aged between 7 and 18 years are the most common.
He explains that some of the teenagers are forced into marriage by their parents who want to make quick money from defilers to deal with financial stress during the lockdown.
