US husband Ralph Marx sent home because he has cancer
A mother has been left to bring up her daughter alone after her American husband was kicked out of Britain – because he has cancer.
Lorraine Marx, 56, watched as Ralph was escorted on to a plane and deported against medical advice.
The Home Office ruled Mr Marx, 56, had become a burden on the taxpayer – and he was billed £98,000 for his leukaemia treatment.
Mrs Marx, a former navy chief petty officer, said: ‘I was stunned when Ralph’s application was rejected. Then to receive the bill – it’s almost too much to bear.’
The couple wed in 2001 but Mr Marx, of Chidham, West Sussex, chose not to apply for residency.
A judge has backed their case but the home office is appealing that ruling.
The NHS has since dropped its bill
