The United States Ambassador to Uganda Deborah Malac Concerned over increased HIV Prevalence in Uganda
The United States Ambassador to Uganda Deborah Ruth Malac, has raised concerns over the high HIV prevalence rates among women in the country compared to men. Malac notes that there is need for the government of Uganda to be concerned at this high rate. Her comments come shortly after the Ministry of Health released preliminary results of the 2016 Uganda Population HIV Impact Assessment (UPHIA) putting HIV prevalence rates among women at 7.5% compared to 4.3% among men.
This, according to the survey, suggests that new infections remain a serious issue which according to Malac requires increased awareness and sensitization programmes for the young people.
