Uganda AIDS Commission Embarks on New Strategies of Fighting AIDS
The Uganda Aids commission is now embarking on devising strategies to move to a level of using cultural youth leaders in every county to fight the AIDS scourge in the country.
Under the arrangement, the commission is moving around in all cultural institutions seeking for strategies on how best through the cultural concept AIDS can be prevented among youths.
In a brain storming session with Kyaggwe youth council leaders in Mukono district the in charge for special programmes in the commission Lillian Atebwa has said that they are targeting youths because they are more sexually active due to various causes.
The youths led by their chairperson Kizito Kayiira however has said that the information on the scourge can be best delivered after the commission has facilitated them and given them enough training.
They have assured that the fellow youths through the cultural concept can be easily mobilized through youth conferences and camp fires through which they educate their fellows.
The youth have also blamed the high prevalence rates on poor handling of expectant mothers by traditional birth attendants with little knowledge in the area, circumcision and fake traditional healers among others.
