Three Police Officers Accused of Destroying Evidence Set Free
Entebbe Magistrate court has set free three police officers from the illegal Drugs Department, who had been accused of destroying evidence that was required in court.
SP Imoly Natalis, AIP Micheal Ssemuwamba and Sgt Julius Mwesigwa had today reported back to Chief Magistrate Mary Kaitesi, to start trial that was fixed way back in January this year, but Prosecution’s Macbeth informed court that she had only come to hold brief for the Prosecutor supposed to handle the matter.
On 19th/March/2018 Magistrate Kaitesi warned prosecutor Julius Muhiirwe to come with his witnesses ready today or risk having the case dismissed, but he has neither appeared nor sent witnesses to court, which prompted the court to dismiss the case for lack of evidence.
They had been accused of destroying 34.5kgs of Narcotics between 2011 and 2015 with knowledge that the said drugs were required in court as evidence/exbhits.
The Director of public prosecutions Mike Chibita last month also withdrew charges against three Police Officers attached to Civil aviation Authority who had been jointly charged with those released today.
