The splitting of West Ankole diocese hindered by over Sh 1 billion debt.
Western Uganda – There is controversy between West Ankore Diocese leaders and the intended Central Ankore Diocese (CAD) as CAD denies a debt from West Ankore diocese.
According to West Ankole diocese spokesperson Zadock Amanyisa, before Sheema district is granted a diocese as it is preparing, it should first pay the debt of about Sh1 billion which is a sum of different figures of the missed tithe during 2015-2017 standoffs when some Sheema district protestant leaders were fighting against then West Ankore diocese bishop, Rt Rev emeritus Katoneene Yona whereby Sheema churches refused to pay the required tithe to the diocese.
However, Katwiremu Yorokamu, a former Member of Parliament representing Sheema South constituency who is the current vice Chairman for National Resistance Movement political party for Sheema district and the chairperson for all CAD preparations dismisses the diocese’s claim, says that CAD (Sheema district) doesn’t owe West Ankole diocese.
Despite explaining to the current Bishop, Rt Rev Twinomujuni Johnson, the CAD won’t be declared an independent diocese unless it clears the debt.
