The River Rwizi catchment management to deploy Uganda people’s Defense Force .
The River Rwizi catchment management comments want the government to bring Uganda people’s Defense Force (UPDF) on board to back up environment police in a bid to revive wetland status that is diminishing.
This was revealed by the John Asiimwe the vice chairperson River Rwizi catchment management committee who is also the chairperson Buhweju district during the one day River Rwizi catchment follow-up dialogue held at Mbarara district council hall Kamukuzi yesterday.
The dialogue was conducted under the theme, “Restoration and sustainable management of river Rwizi catchment for development and livelihood security”.
Asiimwe notes that a lot of effort is needed as soon as possible because the rate at which people are degrading wetlands in the country is alarming.
In his opening remarks the vice chairperson and secretary for production Mbarara district Godfrey Baryomunsi explained that major challenges on degradation of the environment to corruption among the leaders which need an iron hand.
