Tension High in Rakai and Kyotera over ‘unfair’ distribution of heifers under OWC
There is growing tension in Rakai and Kyotera districts with residents staging a series of protests over what they call unfair distribution of heifers under the Operation Wealth Creation (OWC) program. The protests entered the second week on Monday with residents accusing the District Production Officer , Dr. Godfrey Kiwanuka Kimbugwe of grabbing 5 cows.
At least 62 heifers were delivered last week and distributed among the beneficiaries only for different youth groups to storm the district headquarters demanding that Kimbugwe returns the heifers since he was not on the distribution list and several people, who were supposed to benefit were left out because the cows were ‘not enough’.
Led by Bonny Ssekiwanda, the District Youth Leader, residents want the Operation Wealth Coordinator , Col. Badru Kiggwe to intervene and address the matter before the situation runs out of hand.
