Teachers’ Union Seeks For Uniform Salary For All Civil Servants
- The Uganda National Teachers’ Union has called on government to increase salaries of secondary school teachers to match what other public servants in the same salary scale earn.
- Addressing journalists at their offices in Kampala, UNATU General Secretary, James Tweheyo noted that government in the financial year 2016/2017 increased the salary of primary school teachers by 15% but this did not cover secondary school teachers, making them earn more than grade five secondary teachers.
- He has also noted that other public servants in the same salary scale with teachers are earning more hence the need for salary harmonization. The union has also cited delays and irregular payment of teachers’ salaries most especially in districts of Kampala, Namisindwa, Rubanda and Kakumiro among others.
