Tarehe Sita celebrations underway across the country
Preparations for the main celebrations to mark the 38th Tarehe Sita anniversary at Kitgum Core Primary Teachers College in Acholi sub-region are in high gear.
Thirty-eight years ago today, the rebel National Resistance Army (NRA) presided over an attack on Kabamba military barracks in Mubende, central Uganda. That was on February 6, 1981.
The attack became the start of a 5-year guerilla war that eventually brought NRA into the highest seat on the land, ushering in a new government, led by the current President, Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
The event is being held under the theme: UPDF and the people: Consolidating peace for sustainable development and prosperity, and President Museveni is expected to preside over the function.
Meanwhile, here in Mbarara, soldiers from the second division at Mbarara Barracks are holding band matches around town, and the main function to be attended by political, military and civil leaders is to be held at the Makenke army second division grounds.
