Sembabule Residents Want RDC Sacked
Ssembabule residents have petitioned President Museveni, seeking for the transfer of the Resident District Commissioner, David Kamara Bayeeye to another district.
Over 5000 residents in the villages of Booma, Bigaaga, Kabukongote and Buteraniro in Ntuusi Sub County, Ssembabule District have signed a petition asking President Museveni to transfer the Ssembabule RDC due to abuse of his office.
Ronald Kazungu of Booma village accuses the RDC of siding with a powerful tycoon to evict residents from contested land. Kazungu cites the Bigaaga Forest Reserve land in Ntuusi which Karen Kayonga claimed and attempted to evict residents from the four square mile land.
He says that some Kamara disregarded residents concerns and encouraged the businesswoman to go ahead and try to occupy the land. This was in spite of the fact that the Ssembabule LCV chairperson, Elly Muhumuza had agreed to meet the residents before eviction. Kamara refused to attend that meeting.
Another resident Phoebe Mbeera says that Kamara is never available when people want to meet him in his office. She adds that Kamara spends most of the time out of his office and it is alleged that he is always in his home district in Bushenyi.
Mbeera says that people trek long distances to take their grievances to the RDC’ s office but he is never in.
But the Ssembabule RDC Kamara dismisses the accusations leveled against him as misguided. He says he is only doing his duty and is not in the pocket of any land grabbers.
