RUKUNGIRI HIGH COURT ACQUITS THREE ON MURDER CHARGES
High Court sitting in Rukungiri district presided over by justice Andrew Basheija yesterday acquitted three people who were arrested after four dead bodies were found buried in a banana plantation.
The acquitted are Francis Monday, 28, Kabaza Gorretti ,55 who was a nurse at Mozolindi health centre in Kanungu town and Akampurira Martin all residents of Kanungu town council.
They were arrested on 24th febrauary 2012 in Kajara cell in Kanungu town council Kanungu District.
It was alleged that they had murdered four boda boda riders that were exhumed by police in one homestead buried in a banana plantation of a prominent retired medical assistant, Wilson Karaira of Kajara cell in Kanungu town council.
State Attorney Baguma Batson requested the judge to let the accused say something on the bodies. However, the defense lawyer Mulumba said that the evidence produced in court was not enough to pin the accused over the dead bodies.
While acquitting the accused Justice Andrew Basheija said that the evidence was shaky and could not convince court beyond reasonable doubt that the accused had committed the crime.
