Residents curse as they miss free game meat
Residents of Muhokya village in Kasese district are still mourning after rangers blocked them from feasting on free game meat.
This happened after a hippopotamus was killed on spot when a speeding Toyota Land Cruiser hit the animal around Queen Elizabeth Park.
Rangers had to ward off hungry locals who showed up armed with pangas, knives, axes and polyethylene bags to feast on free meat.
They looked on in disbelief with frustration written on their faces as wildlife officials dragged the dead animal – that must have weighed at least half a ton – to the roadside. Hippo meat is a delicacy among Bakonjo, Bamba and Banyarugulu.
